Future focused learning

Future focused learning programs

Future Focused:

Computers, iPads and interactive whiteboards are in every BBPS classroom and provide our students with the opportunity to become critical and creative thinkers whilst preparing them for life in the 21st Century.

Students utilise our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). Program once per week in our brand new flexible learning space.

The program incorporates touch typing skills, use of Office 365 and Google suite, movie making, coding and robotics.

Inquiry-based Learning:

Inquiry-based learning is an education approach that focuses on investigation and problem-solving. Inquiry-based learning is different from traditional approaches because it reverses the order of learning. Burraneer Bay Public School programs embed IBL throughout a variety of learning areas.

Inquiry-based learning prioritises problems that require critical and creative thinking so students can develop their abilities to ask questions, design investigations, interpret evidence, form explanations and arguments, and communicate findings.

Critcal and Creative Thinking:

The Australian Curriculum defines critical thinking as "at the core of most intellectual activity that involves students learning to recognise or develop an argument, use evidence in support of that argument, draw reasoned conclusions, and use information to solve problems."

The Australian Curriculum defines creative thinking as students being able to, "generate and apply new ideas in specific contexts, seeing existing situations in a new way, identifying alternative explanations, and seeing or making new links that generate a positive outcome.

It is widely agreed that critical thinking is a necessary capability across all content areas, and in a rapidly changing world. Here at Burraneer Bay Public School we embed Critical and Creative Thinking throughout our programs.

Sammat Education Smart City Project:

Burraneer Bay Public School offers a program run by Sammat Education, where students are given the opportunity to create a Smart City Project.

Students develop and apply skills in scientific inquiry through the process of working scientifically. Utilising design and production processes and solutions. Students can further develop their knowledge and understanding on the natural world including materials, forces, and energy. The Smart City Project gives students the ability to build environments including engineering principles and digitial technologies.
