Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.
Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.
Students attend the Creative Arts Hub for weekly lessons in Music, Dance and Drama. Students will specialise in an instrument per grade; Kindergarten – Percussion, Year 1 – Xylophones, Year 2-4 – Recorders and Year 5/6 – Drumming. Students have opportunities to perform grade items in front of an audience several times a year.
Students with particular interest and talent can participate in local and state-wide activities in visual arts, music, dance and drama.
Over 130 students participate in dance at Burraneer Bay Public School. Students from Years 2-6 rehearse once a week with either Miss Alecia or Miss Chloe. We are lucky enough to have a boys’ only dance groups and five girls dance group plus an extension group this year.
In 2023 we have many exciting events for the dance groups to perform at including school assemblies, Sutherland Shire Music Festival, Sydney Eisteddfod at the Opera House, Dance Extravaganza, Dancing Stars and Schools Spectacular.
Dance students from Extension Dance are given the opportunity to attend workshops run by the Arts Unit and Schools Spectacular.
We are looking forward to another fun and successful year of dance!
