What we offer

Each school in NSW offers something slightly different depending on the community. Here's what we offer for you.

Canteen

All canteens in NSW public schools must meet certain requirements. These include providing more healthy food and drink options – to make the healthy choice an easy choice for students. Visit Healthy school canteens to learn more.

Uniforms

When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community.

Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

  • meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation

  • includes items that are affordable, comfortable and made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics

  • is appropriate for the full range of school activities

  • is suitable for all body shapes.

Values education

Burraneer Bay Public School's values program underpins all that we do here.

Our 6 core values are:

  • Fairness
  • Respect
  • Friendliness
  • Integrity
  • Responsibility
  • Personal best

Growth mindset

Developing a growth mindset within our students is critical to their learning.  The way students think and see themselves and their abilities has implications on the way that they learn and their level of achievement.

We aim to develop perseverance and resilience within our students. We teach our students about  the power of 'YET'.  There is nothing you can NEVER do, only things you can't do YET!

Burraneer Bay Public School believe that this is an important quality in developing life long learners and students who are creative and critical thinkers who are ready for the challenges of real life.

Our goal is to teach students strategies to embrace challenges with a growth mindset and turn their mistakes into success.  This will equip students in becoming resilient life long learners.

Student leadership

Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.

Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.

At our school, students in participate in leadership skills programs and are given the opportunity to become a peer support leader. Our Kindergarten and Year 6 buddy program exists to support a smooth transition for children starting school.

The Student Representative Council (S.R.C.) operates in years 3-6.  The S.R.C. meets weekly to  discuss fundraising initiatives

Library

The library at Burraneer Bay PS  provides our students with a stimulating, exciting and inclusive environment that promotes a love of literacy and fosters the development of information literacy skills for life-long learning.

Our library has recently undergone a technology upgrade and refurbishment to bring it in line with the needs of the future focused student and establish a modern and vibrant physical space for all students and staff.

Each class participates in a weekly library lesson, providing students with opportunities to appreciate literature, develop 21st Century critical thinking skills and become informed and active citizens in a well resourced and technologically equipped setting. During library lessons all students are encouraged to borrow from the wide collection of recent, popular and quality texts and are assisted in this process by our full-time qualified teacher librarian.

Our library and teacher librarian provide all students and staff with a valuble resource that is an intergral part of the teaching and learning environment at Burraneer Bay PS.
