Community involvement

Burraneer Bay Public School values strong partnerships with our families and community. There are two main ways to get involved: joining the Parents & Citizens Association (P&C), and volunteering.

Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)

What is the P&C?

The P&C is the school's own community organisation, run entirely by parent, carer and community volunteers. It's a registered charity and a separate legal entity from the school itself. The Principal and the Department of Education look after the school's day-to-day running and education, while the P&C is there to support the school in other ways: raising funds, helping provide equipment and facilities, and giving families a voice on things like the canteen, uniform shop, playground equipment and school events.

Every NSW school P&C is set up the same way. Ours is led by an elected Executive Committee (President, two Vice-Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer), with decisions made by members at meetings and an AGM each Term 1 to elect the year's Executive.

You don't need to be a member to come along and see what it's about. Everyone is welcome to attend and observe a general meeting first.

The P&C operates under its own Rules and Policies, consistent with the Department’s model constitution for P&C Associations.

Who can join?

Membership is open to:

• Parents, guardians and carers of a student currently enrolled at the school; and
• Local community members who live within the school's enrolment area and have an interest in the school's welfare - you don't need to be a parent to join.

School staff can join under the same criteria above and the Principal is automatically a member of the P&C.

What does it cost?

Membership is $5 per year. This is a separate fee from any school fees or voluntary contributions and it isn't taken out of anything else you pay to the school.

How do I join?

1. Check you're eligible (see above) - most families are.
2. Join and pay the $5 annual subscription via Flexischools.
3. That's it! Your membership officially begins once the register is updated at the close of the next P&C meeting.

What do I get as a member?

As a P&C member, you can:

• Vote on how P&C funds are spent and what the P&C prioritises for the school
• Nominate and stand for a position on the Executive Committee
• Formally raise issues for discussion and decision at meetings and have your say
• Help shape fundraising priorities, canteen and uniform decisions, equipment and facility improvements for the school and the longer-term strategy and direction of the P&C

It's a great opportunity to have a say in how the school community supports its children and a fantastic way to meet other families.

What's expected of members?

Members are simply asked to conduct themselves appropriately, in line with the P&C's code of conduct, rules and policies as they apply from time to time.

Meetings

The P&C meets at the school at least once each school term, as well as holding an AGM in Term 1. For regular updates between meetings, see the P&C weekly newsletters here.

Fundraising

The P&C runs several fundraising events each year, including the Mother's Day Breakfast, Mum's Lunch, Father's Day Breakfast, the Colour Run and the School Disco.

Volunteer Opportunities

You don't need to be a P&C member to volunteer at the school. Parents and carers can get involved with:
